Frequently Asked Questions

Yoga

What is Yoga?

The word yoga is often interpreted as “union” or a method of discipline. The Indian sage Patanjali is believed to have collated the practice of yoga into a collection of 195 statements that is known as the Yoga Sutra. Most people practicing yoga today are engaged in asana, one of the 8 limbs of yoga, which is a program of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide the physical strength and stamina required for long periods of meditation.

Do I have to be practicing the Religions linked to Yoga?

No, Yoga can be what you connect and resonate within your life. You can practice connecting more with your mind, body, and soul. You can connect to the practice for your health. You can practice Yoga to build community in your life.

Do I need to be flexible and strong to practice Yoga?

It is a misunderstanding that you have to be flexible or strong to do yoga. We work on many levels including the body, the breath, the mind and the spirit in every class. You will find yourself becoming more flexible and strong as you continue to practice yoga.

Energy Work

How does Reiki Work?

Reiki is based on the principle that Qi or life energy exists and flows all around us. In our own bodies, it flows through a series of channels known as meridians and is particularly strong in certain acupoints known in traditional Chinese medicine as Dantian (or Chakras in common Western Reiki terminology). Qi nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of Qi is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the Qi and charging them with positive energy. It raises the energy field in and around the physical body where the Qi disrupts. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the Qi pathways, thus allowing Qi to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Is Reiki a Religion or Faith System?

No. Religions are usually involved with issues such as the afterlife, sin, salvation, etc. and have a doctrine or code that one must believe in in order to be a part of the religion. Reiki does not deal with these things. Reiki is a simple healing technique. It does not require one to give up one’s religion or change one’s spiritual beliefs in any way to practice or receive it.

Can Reiki Really Heal my condition?

First of all, a distinction must be made between healing and curing. Healing is when you go to the root of the problem and restore the body’s balance. Curing is what is normally considered done when you actually remove the problem (but maybe not the cause).

When you have surgery you can remove the “sick” organ or tissue but this might not solve the problem as the procedure often does not solve the underlying problem. One can also be healed but not cured, i.e. your body is in balance but you still have a medical problem.

No promises can be made about the outcome of the use of Reiki (or any other healing system including conventional medicine). It all depends on you, your intent, your background and the nature of your problem. Healing is a different experience and has different effects on every individual.

A big step towards healing yourself is to actually realize your need for healing.

Oracle Reading

Can the cards predict my future?

No, the oracle readings are used to provide guidance and clarity on the specific question or intention you set into place during the session.

What is the difference between Oracle cards and Tarot cards?

At a really high level, Tarot cards come as a traditionally structured deck. There are a few more rules when it comes to Tarot than there are with Oracle cards. Oracle cards are really free-flowing – and they can feature almost any kind of content. With Tarot cards, there are usually around 78 cards. Some decks like to stand out and be a bit different. You might end up with 80 cards or 44 cards, but for the most part, it’s 78 cards. With Oracle cards, on the other hand, there is no set number of cards. You can have a deck with 12 cards, 100 cards, or anything in between.
